I have a lot to say, but first I need to get a grip on this blogging thing. I am a bit slow on the tech highway, but nonetheless here are my first thoughts.
1. I have to write an exam for an online course that I am currently teaching.
2. Why do university deans encourage the demoralization of faculty by hiring new people at increased salaries over the previous ones? I mean, honestly, my department has hired a new person EVERY year that I have been there, and EVERY year they start at more money than the person hired in the previous year. And, I may point out that our salaries are PUBLIC information, so it's not like s/he should expect that to remain confidential. AND, if it hasn't dawned on anyone, we are in a recession for pete's sake. Those people will take any job at any salary.
Good grief.
So the reason I am mentioning this? Because I will be tenured at the end of this year, and starting life as an associate professor in the fall. And even with my tenure raise, I will STILL make LESS money than the fresh-faced, right out of Elite university, with almost no teaching experience AND no publications, junior professor.
Comments, please?
